Age

What is the minimum age to participate in the Wing Chun classes?

At WuDae The Hague, the Wing Chun classes are only for adults. We have a minimum age of 15 years.

Am I too old to start Wing Chun?

No, no one is too old to start Wing Chun. There are members who started at us when they were over 70 years old. However! It is always advisable to consult your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

Is there a maximum age to continue training Wing Chun?

There is no maximum age to continue training Wing Chun. Wing Chun is designed to be effective and efficient. By continuing to develop in this economical way of moving, age-related factors such as strength, flexibility and speed are less decisive, so that you can continue to practice Wing Chun for a lifetime.

FITNESS

Do I have to be fit to train Wing Chun?

You don't have to be fit to start Wing Chun. However, most of our members notice a significant improvement in their fitness the more they exercise Wing Chun.

Do I need to be strong, flexible or fast to practice Wing Chun?

You don't have to be in top physical shape to practice Wing Chun, but you can get it through Wing Chun. And the advantage of our curricula and our personal approach of teaching is that you can develop in Wing Chun, no matter how strong, flexible or fast you are.

Will Wing Chun help me lose weight?

Exercise is important, it is good for your health and it can help with weight loss. And if you want, there are plenty of opportunities in our classes to make it physically challenging for yourself.

Can I practice Wing Chun if I have an injury?

While we will always do our best to adapt the class for our members with an injury, we do not have the medical expertise under any circumstances. Always report the injury and the advice of the attending medical expert to the teachers present before the class starts.

Is Wing Chun suitable if you have a physical or sensory impairment?

The Trial Class

Do I have to take a trial class first?

All our members have first followed a trial class. The trial class is a non-binding introduction to Wing Chun, our way of teaching and our school.

If I already have experience with Wing Chun or another martial art, do I have to take a trial class first?

All our members have first followed a trial class regardless of whether or not they have experience with Wing Chun or another martial art. Each school has its own way of teaching. In our free trial class you have the opportunity to experience our way of teaching.

Can I watch a class?

For members who are just starting out, it is often perceived as unpleasant to be watched during the training by non-members and there is a chance that you will feel the same if you are just starting to train Wing Chun. To prevent this, we have the free trial class.

Is the trial class on fixed days?

The trial class is on Saturdays from 11:00 to 12:30. As a member you are always welcome after the trial class to follow the classes at the times that suit you best. We give more than 20 classes per week (in the morning, evening & weekend).

What do I bring for the trial class?

For the trial class you need long training pants, a comfortable shirt and clean sneakers.

The Classes

Do I have to buy a special uniform to participate in the classes?

It is mandatory to wear a WuDae shirt in our classes. As a new member you will receive the WuDae t-shirt for free. For the rest you need long training pants and clean sneakers. You don't have to buy new stuff if you already have it yourself. All necessary merchandise are available at the school for our members, view our digital showroom here!

Are classes only in Dutch or also in English?

All classes are given bilingually, in Dutch and English.

When are the classes?

We are open 6 days a week. There are classes in the morning, evening & weekend. View the class timetable here!

How long do the classes last?

Our classes last 1 or 1.5 hours. You can choose to take a 1-hour class, but you can also train for 3.5 hours in a row by combining several classes. With more than 20 classes per week, there is plenty of choice. View our class timetable here!

If I am a member, do I have to sign-up for the class I want to take?

You do not have to sign up for a class, you are always welcome.

Can I participate in any Wing Chun class: morning, evening & weekend?

You are always welcome to participate at the class times that suit you best and you can continue to vary classes, between mornings, evenings and weekends. Our personal approach to teaching allows all members to develop at their own level in each class. View the class timetable here!

Is it possible if I am to late for a class to still join this class?

It is not possible to join a class if you are to late, unfortunately it is too disruptive if members come in later.

Is jewelry and/or telephones allowed in class?

Because wearing jewelry can be dangerous during sports, wearing jewelry during classes is not allowed, with the exception of a wedding ring. Phones are not allowed in class.

What can I expect in the classes?

Classes are challenging and taught in a positive and safe environment. Every element of learning, understanding and applying Wing Chun is incorporated into the classes, but also, for example, a warm-up, cardio training and cooling down. You train individually and with a partner, in a group with personal attention.

Are the classes physically demanding?

Whether you're in bad shape or in great shape, thanks to our personal approach you can train at your own level and if you want there is enough room to make the class physically challenging for yourself.

Are the workouts injury-prone?

Our workouts are not injury-prone. In our school you train safely and controlled.

Will I be beaten up during the classes and/or is there an aggressive atmosphere?

We train with great respect for each other, getting beaten up and/or an aggressive atmosphere do not belong in our school. The goal is to make you better in every Wing Chun class, we do this in a positive atmosphere where we help each other and if you want there is enough space to challenge yourself physically but where you can always set your own limits that are respected. Also in, for example, the physically demanding Impact classes.

Are there different curricula and levels in the classes?

We have different curricula from beginner to advanced. The curricula ensure that you can concentrate on your level in Wing Chun and we can intensively guide you in your development in Wing Chun. Thanks to our individual guidance, all different levels can train in the same class. This will be discussed in more detail during the trial class.

Is a headscarf allowed in the classes?

A sports headscarf is not a problem in the classes, because they comply with safety.

Are there female-only and male-only classes?

Our classes are mixed, but if you indicate that, for example, as a woman you only want to train with women or as a man only with men, then that is always possible.

Wing Chun

Is Wing Chun only self-defence?

Wing Chun is more than a unique and effective self-defense. You develop, among other things, more body awareness, a better condition and mental & physical strength, but with us you also learn about a different breathing, philosophies and principles.

Is Wing Chun the same as Kung Fu?

Wing Chun and Kung Fu is the same, but that there are many forms of Kung Fu of which Wing Chun is one is better formulated.

Who is Wing Chun suitable for?

For everyone who is 15 years or older!

Can I combine Wing Chun with other martial arts, strength training and/or other sports?

We think and have the experience that this is possible, you can always contact us if you have any questions about this and we are always open to help you with this.

How long does it take to learn Wing Chun?

You can learn Wing Chun with us at your own pace, so the speed depends on how fast you want to learn Wing Chun. The basics of Wing Chun can be learned in a relatively short time, but there are no limits to your development. You can perfect the system for the rest of your life.

How long has WuDae been around?

WuDae has been active in the martial art Wing Chun Kung Fu in The Hague at the Loosduinsekade 12 for more than 20 years.

The Membership

Is it possible to pay per class or to use a strip card?

The classes can only be followed by using the monthly terminable membership.

Can I make up for missed classes?

As an active member you can always make up for missed classes at the times that suit you best.

What is possible if I cannot train for one or more months because of holidays, study or work, for example?

You can then use the passive membership of 5 euros per month. Request the passive membership in writing in advance for the period of absence, we will always confirm the application in writing within 10 days.

Can the membership be canceled monthly?

The membership can be canceled monthly with a notice period of one calendar month. For example: if you want the month of May to be the last month to remain a member, your written cancellation must be received in the month of April. In this example, the last monthly contribution to be paid is the month of May and the month of June stops the membership and the associated monthly contribution. It does not matter whether your written cancellation is received on the first or last day of the month, the one-month notice period starts on the month following the month in which the mandatory written cancellation was received. Are there registration costs and/or administration costs?

To become a member of WuDae you do not pay registration costs and/or administration costs.

What different memberships are there?

We give you the opportunity to train as flexibly as possible by offering two different memberships. The membership for unlimited training is 99,- per month and for 1x per week 69,- per month. More information during the free and non-binding trial class!

Are the classes Impact, Running Group, Kettlebell, Wing Chun Basics and Masterclass free?

The classes Impact, Running Group, Kettlebell, Wing Chun Basics and Masterclass are free for all our active members regardless of your membership.

Can I adjust my membership?

You can always adjust your membership; from less to more and from more to fewer classes in the week.
